North into the Pyrannese

Leaving Bilbao today, the rain followed us through the verdant mountains to the coast and Bay of Biscay, to the resort city of San Sebastian. With still signs of the "belle epoch", it boasts a lovely beach front and villas. The old town walls have tumbled down making way for an assortment of architectural styles. Our city tour took us past the International Film Festival now in full swing. (Yes, one of our group even got a great close-up of Hugh Grant!) Special "eats and treats" were to-die-for cheesecake and apple "cider". Of course, pintxos (the Basque version of tapas) are served everywhere. We are in a fluctuating weather pattern for fall but the rain did give way to sunshine.
Final destination for today was Pamplona, near the French Royal entrance to the Camino de Santiago. We are staying in a charming converted monastery hotel.
